Ground-Owl Day

Jaycee Park 4125 S.E. 20th Place, Cape Coral, Florida 33904
Punxsutawney has "Phil,” and Cape Coral has its own “Ground-Owl Day.” This annual celebration pays homage to the Cape's official city bird, the burrowing owl, aka Ground-Owl. The bird is expected to see its shadow, a signal that we'll have six more weeks of beautiful "winter weather."
The event repeats itself, taking place 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, February 1, at Jaycee Park and again 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, February 2, at Rotary Park.
The Cape Coral Fun-Mobile will be there with free games and activities for the kids. The Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife will have its burrowing owl mascot Athene on hand for photo-ops.
The burrowing owl celebration doesn't end this weekend, though. On February 29, the city and CCFW present the 18th annual Burrowing Owl Festival - Wildlife and Environmental Expo at Rotary Park.
